The bowl season continues to wind down and there will be several high profile games played on Tuesday’s matchup list.
The first clash will take place in the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl with AAC finalist Houston taking on Auburn in a noon clash. Louisville and his dynamic offense will then play against the Air Force’s top five defenses in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl right after that game.
It’ll be all of the Power Five teams for the rest of Tuesday night. Mississippi State and Texas Tech debut in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl before UCLA and NC State play in the San Diego County Union Holiday Bowl. The list of games ends with West Virginia against Minnesota in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.

Houston vs. Auburn
An AAC team will play an SEC team in a bowl game, although that game is not part of the college football playoffs. The No. 21 Houston lost the title game 35-20 to No. 4 Cincinnati, and will now head to a bowl game against Auburn. Expect a low scoring game as neither of them featured any high octane offenses during the season, Houston placed 57th among FBS teams with 415.1 yards per game and Auburn ranking 63rd with 405.4. The Tigers will be without quarterback Bo Nix, who broke his ankle and had previously announced his intention to transfer to Oregon. The Cougars’ defense ranked sixth in the country in yards allowed with just 298.4.
Air Force vs. Louisville
It will be a confrontation of force against force. The Air Force has been a top-notch defense this season, ranking fifth in yards allowed per game at 289, with its particularly strong rushing defense, allowing just 95.3 rushing yards per game. Louisville, on the other hand, has been one of the best offensives in the country, ranking 19th in total yards per game (450.3) and 21st for rushing yards per game (211.3). Cardinals quarterback Malik Cunningham was a dangerous double-threat option, passing 2,734 passing yards with 18 touchdowns and just six picks, while rushing 161 times for 968 yards and 19 touchdowns. The Air Force, the nation’s No. 1 offense, executes a triple-option offense, with running back Brad Roberts leading 1,284 yards on 279 carries and 13 touchdowns.

Mississippi State vs. Texas Tech
It has been a strange season for Texas Tech. The Red Raiders fired their head coach in the middle of the year and will be coached into the bowl game by an interim coach, offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie, who has already accepted a new coaching position at Louisiana Tech.
