Derek Carr breaks silence on Jon Gruden’s situation
Las Vegas Raiders star quarterback Derek Carr has broken his silence amid controversy surrounding former Raiders head coach Jon Gruden. Carr has built a close personal relationship with Gruden, which is why the 30-year-old QB has come to his struggling coach’s defense.
Carr expressed how much he adores Gruden and how he hopes everyone can get past the controversy caused by the misogynistic and homophobic email leaks:
“It’s hard because I love the man so much,” Carr said, via Levi Damien by Raiders Wire. “I have family members who have done things… I think more than anything the coach needs people to like him… but at the same time what’s good is good and what is wrong not is bad.
While he appears to be offering his full support to the former Raiders shooter, Carr has also made it clear that he hated Gruden’s actions:
“I hate the action, but I love the person,” Carr said, via Vic Tafur of Athletics.
Gruden resigned as Raiders head coach on Tuesday after the contents of some of his emails leaked to former Washington Football general manager Bruce Allen. In said emails, Gruden used several inappropriate terms that elicited a ton of backlash.
Carr himself is appalled at Gruden’s actions, but he calls for a little empathy for his beloved trainer.
