Josh McDaniels’ firm message on Darren Waller’s future amid NFL Draft trade craze
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller has been the subject of a trade rumor as his name was linked to the Green Bay Packers days before the NFL Draft. The rumors were a bit surprising, given that Las Vegas had just traded for stud receiver Davante Adams and now seems set in the skill positions. Immediately after Waller was rumored to be traded, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said there was “zero chance” such a deal would happen. Even Raiders owner Mark Davis acknowledged there was nothing on the trade front for Las Vegas. However, there was a lingering sense, given the trade hype during Thursday night’s NFL Draft, that a deal might still be on the table at the right price. However, head coach Josh McDaniels put all speculation to rest with a firm message about Waller’s future with the Raiders, as reported by Professional Football Discussion.
“I loved my time with him and I’m looking forward to what we’re going to do together,” McDaniels said, via Vic Tafur of TheAthletic.com. “He’s a Raider, he’s going to be a Raider.”
That’s it, Raiders fans! McDaniels said he “enjoyed” being with Waller and that the star tight end was going to be a member of the organization in the future.
Even though things were seemingly trending in that direction, it’s nice for Raiders fans to hear their team’s head coach say bluntly that a Waller trade isn’t in the works.
Las Vegas fans can officially look forward to seeing Carr work with his three-headed monster of passers in Waller, Adams and Hunter Renfrow.
