Tarleton Volleyball releases 2022 schedule, kicks off season with back-to-back home tournaments

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton Volleyball is gearing up for its return to the court with the release of its full 2022 schedule.

The Texans will face 28 teams on a 29-game regular season schedule. Tarleton is expected to compete 14 times in the friendly grounds of Wisdom Gym, starting with back-to-back home tournaments. The program will play 15 non-conference games before moving to a 14-game round robin schedule in the expanded Western Athletic Conference.

Tarleton begins its season in Stephenville on August 26-27 with the Texan Invitational. The Texans will host Farleigh Dickinson and Northwestern State on day one of the tournament before closing the two-day deal against Louisiana Monroe.

The Texans then head to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech on August 30. Texas Tech will be the only Power Five opponent Tarleton will see in 2022. The schools first met on the volleyball court in the spring 2021 season in Stephenville, with Texas Tech claiming a 3-1 win.

After the midweek game with the Red Raiders, the Texans head home for the Pam Littleton Classic, which runs Sept. 2-3. The tournament ground includes Tennessee State, Southeast Louisiana and Prairie View A&M. Tarleton draws Tennessee State and Southeast Louisiana on September 2 and concludes the tournament against Prairie View A&M on September 3.

Tarleton will then leave his home state twice for his remaining non-conference tournaments.

The Texans will travel to the Sunshine State for the first time on Sept. 9-10 for the Jacksonville College Tournament for a three-game streak against the host Dolphins, Florida Atlantic and Idaho.

A trip to Greeley, Colorado Sept. 15-17 for the Northern Colorado Tournament will next host Tarleton. The Texans host Northern Colorado on Thursday, then face Santa Clara and Cal Poly on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

The visit to Colorado marks the end of the tournament and catapults Tarleton into WAC action.

The Texans will host Abilene Christian, Stephen F. Austin, UT-Arlington (UTA), Grand Canyon, California Baptist, Utah Valley and Seattle University from September through October as part of its conference slate.

Between home pairings are road trips to face Incarnate Word, Lamar, New Mexico State, Utah Tech, UTRGV, Sam Houston and Southern Utah.

Southern Utah, Incarnate Word and UTA are scheduled to join the conference on July 1.

Tarleton has also scheduled a round trip with former Lone Star Conference rival Texas A&M-Commerce. The teams meet for the first time in Commerce on September 27 before the Lions return to the Cowboy Capital on August 11. Texas A&M-Commerce is entering its first season at the NCAA Division I level and the Southland Conference. Tarleton owns a 23-21 all-time series advantage against Texas A&M-Commerce and is 14-5 at home against the Lions.

The Texans are now eligible to play in all WAC postseason championships, as previously announced on June 10. The WAC Volleyball Tournament takes place November 17-19 at the UTRGV campus in Edinburgh. The top eight teams qualify for the WAC tournament. The winner earns an automatic bid for the NCAA Tournament.

Every home game will be broadcast on ESPN+. All WAC home games will be played at either 6:00 p.m. CT on Thursday or 1:00 p.m. CT on Saturday.

Start times for both home tournaments will be announced at a later date.
